Precision irrigation, water efficiency, and productivity have been the key focal points of the development work Fasterholt has put into its new irrigation boom.
The irrigation boom , which will be unveiled at Agromek 2026, is a combination of Fasterholt’s self-propelled irrigation machine, the FM5500H, and a 50-meter-wide irrigation boom.
The boom is 50 meters wide and fitted with low-pressure sprinklers. An end sprinkler, approved for low-pressure irrigation, is mounted at each end of the boom, extending the spreading width by 11 meters on each side. This brings the total spreading width to 72 meters. In addition, the boom is equipped with hydraulic height adjustment, allowing the working height of the boom to be adjusted according to crop height.
Efficient water utilization
Both politically and among the general public, the focus on climate and environment preservation is increasing, which also extends to the management of water resources. As a result, several regions across European countries have introduced time restrictions on irrigation with traditional guns.
Therefore, the interest in boom irrigation grows, as the method ensures even, precise irrigation close to the crops. Among other things, this minimizes evaporation and wind drift, meaning boom irrigation can reduce water consumption by 20–25% compared to traditional gun irrigation.
Subsidy for low-pressure irrigation
On October 1, 2026, the Danish Agricultural Agency will launch a subsidy scheme for selected technologies, including low-pressure irrigation with mobile equipment. DKK 25 million has been allocated to the scheme, covering 40% of standard costs. The scheme will run until December 1, 2026.
